The Ship's Knees Inn is a 180 year-old restored sea captain's home that gives you old-style New England lodging surrounded by the charm of yesterday while offering the convenience of today. Just a 3-minute walk to beautiful sand duned Nauset Beach. When the country inn was in its formative stages, Cape Cod, and the adjacent New England area helped cast the personality of a new emerging nation. Today, trans-Atlantic flights trail vapor across the skies to accentuate the acceleration of change in the 20th century. But on the Cape, fishing boats, windmills, and lighthouses cling to the tempo of the past as the waves breaking on the beaches continue to set the pace as they did in days gone past. The Ship's Knees Inn exemplifies the quiet Yankee tradition that canopies the Cape year-round. Built over 180 years ago, with a new section added in 1970, the inn offers an intimate setting that's only a short walk to scenic Nauset Beach. Inside the warm, lantern-lit doorways are nineteen rooms, each individually decorated in a distinctly nautical style, and appointed with its own special colonial color scheme and genuine antiques. Several rooms feature authentic ship's knees, hand-painted trunks, old clipper ship models, braided rugs and four-poster beds. Some of the rooms have an ocean view, and the master suite has a working fireplace. A swimming pool and tennis court in a country setting is available. The inn, open all year, offers a complimentary continental breakfast. Guests may choose to dine outside on the patio on sunny days, enjoying the pleasant companionship of other guests or planning the days activities with the host and hostess. Three miles away, overlooking the Orleans Town Cove, the Cove House property offers 3 rooms, a one bedroom apartment, and two heated cottages.
