An idyllic setting, splendid views, a warm welcome and an aura of perfect peace make CASA MAZZONI one of the loveliest rural retreats in Tuscany. Our beautifully converted stone farmstead nestles on the edge of glorious woodlands just below one of the peaks of Maremma's highest range of hills. This way, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over gently receding green and blue hills to the distant sea. On a clear day you can see Elba on the horizon. Roughly whitewashed walls, low beamed ceilings, ancient terracotta floors and charming antique furnishing give the seven bedrooms the sort of character which makes CASA MAZZONI a home rather than a hotel. We have an enthusiastic interest in, and an eye for, antiques and are constantly in search of a piece to add to the collection. Mealtimes are a convivial affair around a huge table outside the splendid creeper-shaded terrace. During cooler weather we serve the meals in the delightful dining room where the stone mangers now hold not hay but an excellent collection of wines: SASSICAIA, BRUNELLO, FIZZANO, ROCCATO. The local vintages are eminently drinkable and the dinners cooked by Angelo's wife are delicious. Breakfast on the terrace is a moment to linger. In addition to the view, the bread is so crisp, the coffee so good, the chestnuts honey so aromatic and the provision of treats as S. Daniele prosciutto or cheeses so generous. The view from our pool is as beautiful as from the terrace and it is hard to tear oneself away from this oasis of tranquility although there is plenty to do and to see by foot, bicycle, car or even horseback.
