Provocative and ironic, the Aleph is a hotel that is not afraid to take risks and show its teeth. The latest project from New York designer, Adam D. Tihany, is an eclectic display of decadence and reserve, coolness and passion, inspired by the eternal theme of heaven and hell. Although guest rooms draw on Italian designs from the 30's and 40's, it is the ground floor and basement that are the central areas of the Aleph. The crimson and scarlet ground floor is a seductive introduction to the building, home to the casually sexy restaurant "Sin", where a completely red menu of dishes is served. Peculiarly, guests wishing to enter heaven will have to go downstairs rather than up. Reserved, as one would expect, for a lucky few, this opulent spa and relaxation area, in divine blues and whites, is intimate and hedonistic. With Turkish and Swedish baths, saunas, pools and bars, even the best behaved of angels could well be tempted.
